Strange though it may seem, only a handful know about this road, even among local dwellers. It passes through a deep gorge with walls almost completely hidden under vivid green growth of all the fantastic forms and shapes. This looks more like a jungle than an ordinary forest in the middle of Europe.
Here and there you’ll notice a stream of water coming from high up in the mountains, trickling down the steep stone walls. It is these streams, giving the gorge its name (we’ll let you figure for yourself what Pissarotta stands for in Italian), that produce the cool humid feel even on the hottest day.
Beware of sharp turns; do not stray into the opposite lane, and keep your speed within reasonable limits.
